Welcome back families! 08/02/2010
Dear Parents and Community Members: Cesar Chavez Academy District staff will welcome over 2,100 students back to school this fall, making it perhaps the largest charter school system in Michigan! For educators, there is great delight in seeing youngsters converge upon their school house at the end of a long summer. Watching the first few days and weeks of school unfold, I was reminded how fortunate our children are to attend schools where teachers are committed to making a difference and where the community supports schools and staff. In addition to public support and highly qualified, dedicated staff, one of our greatest strengths in CCA is that our schools are small. Research supports the obvious--students are more successful in school when they are well known by their teachers. As the school year begins, we have renewed our commitment to creating safe school and classroom environments where students have positive interactions with their teachers and peers. Recently, the CCA District received a communication from Advance Ed about its coveted North Central Accreditation (NCA). We are the first multi-campus charter school system in the State to receive such a distinction. As parents and community members, you should feel honored to know that our students are in a K-12 school system that expects excellence. All of us share the same vision for the children of CCA. We know that friendly relationships between students and with staff when combined with engaging learning in a safe environment will produce the desired outcome of high levels of achievement for all students. CCA has a great tradition of parent and community involvement in schools which is expressed in the district's mission statement--"To provide an opportunity for all students to learn in a safe atmosphere of academic excellence." On behalf of the teachers, staff, and administrators of CCA, thank you for joining us in providing the highest quality education possible for the children of CCA. This is truly a shared venture, and I welcome input and participation from all stakeholders. I invite parents, community members and staff to connect with me and share insights, concerns and stories related to this ongoing vision for educational excellence. Sincerely, Javier Garibay Regional Vice President Add Comment | “Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.”
